Common questions about plans and billing.
Every POST request to the /api/v1/compile endpoint counts as one compilation, regardless of whether it succeeds or fails. This includes retries and iterative edits. Creating one real document typically requires 3-6 compilation attempts.
With 50 compilations per month and an average of 3-6 attempts per document, you can create roughly 8-16 documents. That is enough to evaluate the product and build simple workflows.
The API returns a 429 status code with details about your usage and when the limit resets. Your limit resets on the first day of each month. You can upgrade your plan at any time to increase your limit immediately.
Yes. Upgrades take effect immediately and you get the full monthly allowance right away. Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period.
Yes! Annual billing is available on all paid plans with significant savings. Starter saves 22% ($7/month billed at $84/year instead of $108), Pro saves 17% ($24/month billed at $288/year instead of $348), and Business saves 20% ($79/month billed at $948/year instead of $1,188). We accept all major credit cards through our payment processor. Invoicing is available for Business plans.
The API returns a 422 error with your document's page count and your plan's limit. These rejected compilations do not count against your monthly allowance. You can upgrade your plan at any time, or split the document into smaller pieces.
Pressa supports three LaTeX compilers. pdflatex is the standard, fast, and works for most documents. xelatex has better font and Unicode support. lualatex uses significantly more memory and is needed for complex typography, custom fonts, and advanced typesetting. Free and Starter plans include pdflatex and xelatex. Pro and Business plans add lualatex.
